Ozworld Solid Timber Herringbone FAQs
Common questions about Ozworld solid hardwood herringbone flooring, installation and maintenance.
Is this solid or engineered herringbone flooring?
This Ozworld collection consists of genuine solid hardwood throughout each block. It is not engineered timber.
What are the board dimensions?
Each herringbone block measures 600mm long, 92mm wide and 18mm thick. The boards feature micro-bevelled edges and a tongue-and-groove profile.
Which hardwood species are available?
The collection includes Grey Ironbark, Pacific Blackbutt, Red Ironbark and Sydney Blue Gum. All four are listed with a satin finish.
Does this flooring require sanding after installation?
The boards have a factory-applied satin finish. Standard installation does not normally require initial sanding and coating. Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.
Can solid timber herringbone be installed over concrete?
Concrete installations require a manufacturer-approved system. Moisture conditions, substrate preparation and fixing requirements must be assessed first.
Is solid timber herringbone suitable for floating installation?
Do not assume a standard floating installation is suitable. The selected solid hardwood product requires an approved fixing method and suitable subfloor.

Product Details & Buying Guide
+
Genuine Solid Hardwood Construction
Ozworld manufactures this herringbone range
from solid hardwood throughout each block.
Unlike engineered flooring, the product
does not use a multi-layer plywood core.
Natural colour and grain variations
give the finished floor its character.
Furthermore, each species creates
a distinctive appearance.
Available Timber Species
Choose from four prefinished
Australian hardwood options:
- Grey Ironbark: Satin
- Pacific Blackbutt: Satin
- Red Ironbark: Satin
- Sydney Blue Gum: Satin
Each timber species has natural
variations in grain and colour.
Therefore, samples may not represent
every board in the finished floor.

Why Choose Solid Timber Herringbone?
Herringbone flooring uses rectangular
blocks arranged at right angles.
This creates a distinctive zigzag pattern
with a traditional architectural appearance.
Solid hardwood adds natural grain
and rich timber character to the design.
As a result, the finished floor
can become a striking interior feature.
Prefinished Satin Surface
Ozworld supplies this range with
a factory-applied satin finish.
The surface highlights natural
timber grain without requiring
standard initial on-site coating.
However, the floor still needs
correct handling, installation
and ongoing maintenance.
Solid Timber Herringbone Installation
Solid timber herringbone requires
careful planning and a compatible
installation system.
Installers must consider the
selected boards, subfloor condition
and manufacturer’s requirements.
Before installation, assess moisture,
flatness and substrate suitability.
Accurate setting-out also helps
maintain a consistent herringbone pattern.
Suitable fixing methods depend
on the product and project.
Therefore, confirm the approved
installation system before work begins.
Solid vs Engineered Herringbone
Solid timber herringbone uses hardwood
throughout each block. Engineered
herringbone combines a real timber
surface with a layered supporting core.
Both create a genuine timber floor.
However, their movement characteristics
and installation requirements differ.
Compare our
engineered herringbone and chevron flooring
for additional pattern options.
Care & Maintenance
Regular cleaning helps protect
the satin finish. Sweep or vacuum
using a suitable timber-floor attachment.
Remove spills promptly and avoid
excessive water or steam cleaning.
In addition, use furniture pads
to reduce surface scratching.
